The Hong Kong Jockey Club Financial Education Programme Seminar was successfully held on 20 June. With the theme “Virtual Assets – Opportunity or Risk?”, the seminar was attended by principals, teachers and people from various sectors to explore the field of financial education in the digital finance era.

Mr. Christopher Hui, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, served as the keynote speaker. Starting on the topic of virtual assets, he explained the latest financial trends and related challenges in an accessible way, encouraging teachers to cultivate students’ awareness of digital financial risks and value judgment ability from an early age.

Ms. Winnie Ying, Head of Charities (Head of Charities (Education & Youth Cluster) of The Hong Kong Jockey Club, delivered the opening speech, highlighting the importance of financial education. She emphasised that primary school students should begin learning basic financial concepts at an early age to cultivate a healthy attitude toward money, instill essential financial knowledge, values and mindsets, and promote responsible and capable financial behavior, empowering them to thrive in an increasingly dynamic future.

Teachers also shared about the transformative impact of comprehensive financial education. The discussion covered interdisciplinary teaching practices and the sharing of real-world teaching cases, with a particular emphasis on how to promote students’ financial literacy and value education through the humanities. The guests included Mr. Cheng Kin Ho, the Vice – Principal of Yan Chai Hospital Law Chan Chor Primary School, Mr. Wong Yuk Chun, the Head of Catholic Island School, and Ms. Fong Yuen Sze, the Head of Chan Sui Ki (La Salle) Primary School.
